BREITLING WINDRIDER:
WHAT IS A CHRONOMETER?
A chronometer is a high-precision watch that has successfully undergone the entire battery of COSC tests (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute).
Before awarding its certificate, this neutral and independent body individually tests each movement over a period of fifteen consecutive days and nights, in five positions and at three different temperatures (23C, 38C and 8C).
To be called a chronometer, a mechanical movement must meet seven criteria, including achieving a mean variation in rate of between -4 and +6 seconds a day, corresponding to a 99.99% degree of precision, the highest a mechanical movement can reach.
The term "chronometer" should not be confused with that of "chronograph". A chronograph is a complicated watch endowed with an additional mechanism enabling it to measure the duration of an event; a chronograph is not necessarely chronometer-certified, but all Breitling chronopgraphs carry the much sought-after title of chronometers.
